Former New Line Exec Now Repping UAE Talent

When launching a new enterprise, positive media coverage can often be a key, early phase component.

Former New Line Cinema legal and business affairs rep Saro Carlwig (2000-05) get a nice write-up today in Dubai’s The National for her nascent efforts with the Talent Casting Agency. Although it’s somewhat hard to believe, her company, launched last December, is apparently the United Arab Emirates’ first internationally focused talent agency for actors and directors.

Carlwig said she had 24 Emiratis on her books with a further five lined up. “I want to help Emirati filmmakers, scriptwriters and actors develop their talent and take them to the next level,” she said. “There is so much talent in this country but nobody to represent them internationally…”

Mr. al Janahi, one of the UAE’s best-known directors, said: “I’ve been looking for something like this. You can’t keep doing everything yourself.”

Carlwig, who graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in law and a master’s in film, also worked as an associate producer on the reality show Bridezillas before relocating to the UAE in 2007. Her new business sounds like a winner to FishbowlLA.
