Rupert Murdoch Named Co-Chair of the Partnership for New York City

Next thing you know he'll be running for mayor. Rupert Murdoch has just been named co-chair of the Partnership for New York City, which, in case you are wondering, is a "network of business leaders dedicated to enhancing the economy of the five boroughs of New York City and maintaining the city's position as the center of world commerce, finance and innovation." Good to know someone is! Of course his co-chair is the CEO of Goldman Sachs so there's that. Full press release after the jump. News Corporation Chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch Named Co-Chair of the Partnership for New York City Mr. Murdoch Joins Goldman Sachs Chairman and CEO Lloyd Blankfein At the Helm of New York Cityâ€™s Pre-eminent Business Organization NEW YORK, December 5, 2008 Rupert Murdoch, Chairman and CEO of News Corporation, a diversified global media company with $33 billion in annual total revenues, was elected Co-Chair of the Partnership for New York City today. He joins Lloyd C. Blankfein, Chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs, who is serving his second year as Co-Chair of New York City's pre-eminent business organization. Mr. Murdoch succeeds Victor Ganzi, the former President and CEO of the Hearst Corporation, whose term as Co-Chair of the Partnership concluded at its Annual Meeting today in Manhattan. Mr. Murdoch leads one of the world's most successful and diversified media companies with operations in eight industry segments: filmed entertainment; television; cable network programming; direct broadcast satellite television; magazines and inserts; newspapers and information services; book publishing; and other. The activities of News Corporation are conducted principally in the United States, Continental Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, Asia and the Pacific Basin. Mr. Murdoch's United States publishing and broadcast entities, much of it headquartered in New York City, include the Wall Street Journal, New York Post, Dow Jones, the Fox Broadcasting Company and 20th Century Fox. In 2007, News Corporation launched an unprecedented global energy initiative aimed at significantly reducing carbon emissions from its operations and engaging its tens of thousands of employees and millions of its global readers, viewers and web users on the issue. The company vowed at the time to be carbon neutral by 2010 through energy efficiency, buying renewable power and offsetting otherwise unavoidable emissions.
