7-Year-Old Texas Girl Strikes a Magnificent ‘Rosie the Riveter’ Pose

For her school's Career Day and now, a magazine cover

An instant-classic IAM Journal cover.

The bulletin put out by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers is not typically a publication cited at annual magazine cover awards. But thanks to the Spring/Summer 2017 issue, that could soon change.

That’s 7-year-old Corpus Christi, Texas elementary school student Isabella Rose Alviar. The photo was taken not for the magazine but after an earlier appearance, in costume, at her learning institution’s Career Day. Inside the bulletin, the circumstances of the classic shot are explained:

Rose had hoped her grandfather, IAM District 776 business representative Joe Alviar, could make it to her school to talk about his job as a union representative. Unfortunately, contract negotiations kept Joe from making it.

Rose, undeterred and still beaming with pride, met her grandfather at the door upon his return home. The photo was taken shortly after.

Young Alviar’s grandmother, Linda, is the one who snapped the picture. Bravo!
