Rolling Stone Publisher Schenck Headed to Condé Nast

Will Schenck is leaving Wenner Media, where he was publisher of Rolling Stone, to become vp, chief revenue officer of Fairchild Fashion Group, Condé Nast’s fashion B2B unit.

Schenck is a vet of Condé Nast; he was ad director at Vanity Fair from 2001 to 2003 and previously sold ads for Gourmet. At Fairchild, he’ll report to president and CEO Gina Sanders and be charged with creating advertising programs and identifying new revenue streams and line extensions. He starts May 10.

The chief revenue officer role was previously held by Lisa Ryan Howard, who exited earlier in the year after her old boss Richard Beckman left. Beckman is now CEO of e5 Global Media, parent company of Mediaweek. Howard was since named publisher of e5’s Billboard.

Rolling Stone has changed publishers regularly over the years; Schenck was the third person in the position in six years. His departure comes at a difficult time for the iconic music title: ad pages fell 18.8 percent last year and are flat year to date, per the Mediaweek Monitor.

A Wenner rep said the company expected to name a replacement shortly.
