We are delighted announce some important changes for Roll Call’s copy/design team, which is being reorganized to better meet our needs for smart design and graphics while maintaining a standard of editing excellence.

First, Emily Ortman is being promoted to the role of Copy Desk Chief. Emily has emerged in her three years with us as a standout editor, capable in every role we’ve ever asked her to play.

Blake Whitney will become our Deputy Design Director, a new role we’ve created to work with Marilyn Gates-Davis to more effectively execute our best ideas for the visual presentation of information on the web and in print.

Sara Bondioli will serve as deputy copy chief, with a special emphasis on our web content. Sara and Emily will captain a team of four copy editors, including Alex Wang, Cyra Master and two additional hires.

In the days ahead, we’ll provide more information about how the restructured desk affect the process for proofs and graphics.

Until then, please join us in congratulating Emily, Blake and Sara for their new, well-deserved roles.
