Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 5 launched today on Xbox 360 and PS3. The developer has already released a mobile companion app, giving players the chance to live the life of a morally questionable hero, even while on the go. The app contains a pet simulation game, as well as car customization options, all of which will sync back to the console game experience.

Grand Theft Auto: iFruit comes with two main activities, as well as information about Rockstar’s existing mobile titles like Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The first, Los Santos Customs, allows players to create their ultimate dream vehicle for use in the console game. Players can create and reserve their custom license plate for Grand Theft Auto Online, as well as purchase upgrades for their GTA: 5 vehicle.

These upgrades include window tinting, new wheels, hoods, spoilers, paint jobs, exhaust and suspension systems and much more. Items may not be free, but the order(s) for parts can be placed on the go, with parts waiting for players inside the garage when they go back to Grand Theft Auto 5.

iFruit’s other major element is Chop the Dog, a pet simulation game that ties into the game’s virtual dog, Chop. Players can feed Chop, use toys to play with him like fetching or tug-of-war, and teach him tricks. Other activities including taking Chop for a walk and fighting off rival dogs, all with the irreverence that Rockstar is known for.

Grand Theft Auto: iFruit uses a player’s free Social Club account to transfer data between the app and the console game. These accounts are free, as is the app, which can now be downloaded on iPhone and iPad.
