RIAA: Mobile Music Sales Up 14.6% in '07

Shipments of physical music CDs in the US fell 17.5% in 2007 according to RIAA figures, continuing the downward spiral for the seventh straight year. Thanks to a hefty 39% increase in digital downloads, which now account for 23% of the market, total unit sales rose 11.6%, but overall revenue still dropped 11.8% year-over-year, says a Digital Media Wire report on the year-end numbers.

Mobile music, which, for the RIAA includes master ringtones, ringbacks, music videos, full-length downloads and other content, brought in $879 million in 2007, up from $421 million in 2005 and $773 million in ’06.
