Reports Say EA to Buy PopCap Games

Deal carries $1 billion price tag

PopCap Games, the makers of gaming favorites like Bejeweled and Plants vs. Zombies, is in the process of being acquired, according to TechCrunch. The gaming company is reportedly being sold for more than $1 billion to Electronic Arts, the multiconsole gaming powerhouse.

According to insiders, the pricey deal is likely an aggressive move by EA to break into the mobile and social gaming markets. EA’s strengths have always been console-bound, offering best-sellers for Wii, PlayStation, and Xbox systems.
