RD Recap: Tough Times at Yahoo; A Female Chair at National Geographic Society

It’s starting at Yahoo. The ailing internet company will eventually cut up to 15 percent of its workforce–more than 1,500 jobs. Marissa Mayer began this week by saying goodbye to 107 staffers. The idea–supported by consultants at McKinsey & Co., Goldman Sachs and Qatalyst Partners–is to shore up the core internet business while also making Yahoo attractive to outside buyers. According to Kara Swisher, Mayer isn’t “making that sale process easy, including not leading due diligence efforts that will be important to any sale.”
