Randall Roberts Exiting LA Weekly

Music editor Randall Roberts has given notice at the LA Weekly, and will be leaving the paper at the end of the month. The rumor we’re hearing is that he’s landed a job as music editor of the LA Times. If that’s so, the LAT wasted no time in filling the position – it was only announced a couple weeks ago that Gina McIntyre was exiting her role as music editor to become the paper’s deputy film editor.

What is for certain is that the LA Weekly will need to hire a new music editor. The paper’s parent company Village Voice Media has a tradition of promoting from within the 14-paper chain. But the recent hire of blogger Karina Longworth as LA Weekly film editor shows a willingness by the company to go with outside talent that is younger and less conventional – and presumably less expensive – than their predecessors.
