She's so cool. Dear writers, friends and colleagues, I am sending you an invitation for an upcoming one-day writing workshop to be held Sunday, July 19th, in Topanga Canyon. This will be one in a monthly series, with rotating areas of focus. I have already launched another advanced ongoing memoir/novel workshop which is in full swing. If you want to join, we will start another cycle in September. Additionally, I will be offering initial consultations for writing coaching sessions for $75 during July. The intimate workshop will be limited to no more than 7 participants, first-come, first-served. *In this workshop, you will: Have the opportunity to submit seven double-spaced pages of the opening of your book to the instructor and other participants before we meet Learn how to craft a killer opening so agents, editors and readers will be salivating for more Sketch out key elements for the blue print for your entire book Hone your short, punchy description of the book to make it irresistible Tap into your passion for the book and clarify why you must write it, and why others would want to read it Write a variety of in-class exercises that explore crucial techniques for a successful book, anything from voice to point of view to crisis, overall structure, character arcs, and how to create suspense Learn about the current marketplace, what sells, and tips on finding agents Learn about the novel and memoir forms, the art of the first draft, the power and reality of revision Learn the secret of finding a â€œguide bookâ€ and how it can help you stay on course with your own project and bring it to fruition Experience a guided peer workshop in the afternoon detailing constructive criticism for your seven opening pages Connect with a community of other writers who are also currently writing books and/or book proposals Leave with enthusiasm, focus, concrete feedback on your writing, clear goals and a solid plan for executing your book and making it a reality Please make checks out to: Writers On Fire/120 N.
