Push URLs to Android Phones Not Running Froyo

If you are a regular reader of this blog, you know that I think the push notification capability that is part of Android 2.2 (Froyo) is very cool. I expect that developers will come up with all sorts of ways to send things to Android phones by using the push capability. I’ve written about the Chrome To Phone extension for the Chrome browser and how it works phones running Froyo, but unfortunately that extension does not work with phones running earlier versions of Android.
The good news is that an application called LinkPush is now available for phones running Android 1.5 and newer, it is also a combination of a Google Chrome extension and Android app. Unlike Chrome To Phone that does not require an application to be running, you have to run the LinkPush app on the phone to open web pages sent to the phone.
While it doesn’t work exactly the same as Chrome to Phone, it provides nearly the same functionality with the added benefit of being able to run on any Android phone. You will find LinkPush in the Android Market.
