Potential Buyers Less Interested in iPad Since Announcement

Did Apple’s iPad unveiling, after all the months of hype, backfire? It looks like it may have, at least according to a report released at the end of last week by the Retrevo electronics marketplace blog.

As you can see from the chart above, 26% of the 1,000 Retrevo users polled before the announcement had heard about the tablet but were not interested in buying one, and that number grew to 52& after the announcement, indicating that they were not impressed with what they saw. However, only 3% had heard about it and were interested in buying before, and 9% said they’d buy one after. So perhaps that’s promising.

Another chart shows that, before the announcement, 49% of respondents said they didn’t think they needed an iPad, and after the announcement 61% said they didn’t need one. The survey also shows that respondents were not interested in the 3G models. Hmmm. Just a big iPod Touch, or world-changing device? This survey indicates the former. What about you?
