Niantic kicked off its holiday celebrations in Pokemon Go.

For a limited time, players have the chance to capture special Pikachu wearing festive hats. These are the same festive Pikachu that were first released in 2016, and when evolved into Raichu, they will keep their hats.

Next, from Dec. 22 at 1 p.m. PST through Dec. 25 at 1 p.m. PST, the first PokeStop players visit each day will reward them with a single-use Egg Incubator.

In addition, from now until Dec. 25 at 1 p.m. PST, players can purchase special boxes in the in-game store, which contain items such as Super Incubators, Lure Modules and new Star Pieces. A Star Piece allows players to earn bonus stardust for 30 minutes after it’s activated.

After these boxes leave the store Dec. 25, new boxes will become available until Jan. 4, 2018, containing items such as Premium Raid Passes, Super Incubators and Star Pieces.

Finally, 20 new Water- and Ice-type Pokemon from the Hoenn region of the Pokemon universe have been added to the game. In addition, more Ice-type Pokemon are now appearing around the world.

Pokemon Go is available to download for free on iOS and Android. The game has driven more than 500 million visits to sponsored locations since its launch in July 2016.

Earlier this year, Niantic partnered with Wieden + Kennedy London to launch an advertising campaign for Pokemon Go. The campaign saw billboards containing gameplay stats appear in New York, Tokyo and London, and some of these billboards were activated as in-game PokeStops.
