Plants vs. Zombies 2 Updated With ‘Summer Nights’ Event

The limited-time update brings new zombies, a new plant and more to the tower defense game.

EA Mobile has released the latest contest update for Plants vs. Zombies 2, its free-to-play tower defense game on mobile devices. The update is called ‘Summer Nights,’ and it brings new zombies, levels and more to the game for a limited time.

From now until August 13, plays can complete new Piñata Party levels in this event, and can unlock a special-edition plant called the Strawburst, which throws explosive strawberries at zombies. To be specific, the Strawburst grows a new strawberry automatically over time, but players must tap on the plant to manually fire it at enemies. Players can fire the strawberry before it fully grows, but the shot does less damage. If they wait, the fully-grown strawberry can defeat multiple zombies in a single explosion. Users can try the Strawburst for free, and can purchase it for their army for $4.99.

In addition, there are seven new zombies to encounter, including the Hot Dog Imp, along with five new costumes to collect. Plus, players will receive more power-ups with each win.

Finally, players can experience the Summer Nights-themed Vasebreaker mode, which releases sparklers with every smashed item. Outside of this event, gamers now have access to new repeatable quests for the game’s Wild West, Far Future and Dark Ages.

Plants vs. Zombies 2 is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store and Google Play. The game has been downloaded more than 100 million times since its release in 2013.
