Piktochart Launches All-New Interactive Web Graphics Creator

The latest web app in the infographics creation world is Piktochart, which recently released a whole new version of its dashboard to make graphics creation easier and more interactive. I hadn't used Piktochart before the recent launch, but I have used and reviewed tools like easel.ly, and infogr.am, and Piktochart is so far my favorite. With an interface reminiscent of Tumblr's theme selector, Piktochart has a selection of 75 themes -- both a mix of free and premium. Similar to the other tools mentioned above, Piktochart has a super-visual drag-n-drop interface that lets you choose icons, images, textures, charts or your own uploads and place them on a canvas. The charts interface is essentially a spreadsheet-looking table that lets you input your raw data. But beyond creating static infrographics, the new layer of Piktochart is the web-friendly interactivity. All Piktochart graphics are now search-engine compatible, meaning someone can search for terms in your graphic and see your graphic show up on results for Google or Bing or another engine. You can also include hyperlinks within your text or add tabs within the content for users to click around and explore additional information. They're also embeddable onto your website. The embeddable version doesn't seem to place nice with WordPress, which could be a problem for bloggers looking to use the tool. The embed also injects some of its own CSS, which might mess with the default background and link styles in your site's templates. When you download a static version of a graphic that includes interactivity, the tabs and links get stripped out. Best practice might be to create two versions -- an interactive and non-interactive. There is a free version for casual users, but to get rid of the Piktogram watermark, have access to more customization options and get more space for your own image uploads, you might look into a pro account, which goes for $30 a month or $129 a year.
