Penton Dumps Five Titles On NewBay; No Cuts?

B2B publisher Penton Media has agreed to sell five properties—Mix, Electronic Musician, Radio, Sound & Vision Contractor and—to NewBay Media, which has been ramping up acquisitions in the media and communications space.

NewBay Media had purchased Broadcasting & Cable and Multichannel News from Reed Business Information in 2009, and made other purchases in audio/broadcast/video in ’07 and ’06, so the new purchases fit within a solid niche.

Meanwhile Penton has been selling off its non-core properties as it struggles through post-bankruptcy life: in October the company sold three titles; it cut 11 jobs in May of last year and shortly before declaring bankruptcy closed the print editions of two more titles.

A spokesman for NewBay confirmed that the editorial and sales staff of all five titles will be making the transition.
