Latest OC Register Hires Include LAT Alums Margot Roosevelt, Joanna Clay

Newly recruited OC Register economy reporter Margot Roosevelt (pictured) has declared that she is “excited to join one of the most dynamic newspapers in the country right now.” She’s right on the money about that.

As we and others have been chronicling this summer and fall, the paper is on a mission to prove there are still ways in this day and age of Gawker, BuzzFeed and the front page of Yahoo! to make a daily print newspaper profitably thrive. What’s so great about the hire of Roosevelt, previously with Reuters and the LA Times as an environment reporter from 2007 to 2011, is that she is the kind of massively experienced journalist (30+ years) who typically falls by the wayside in today’s print media landscape after being laid off. She will no doubt be a dynamic contributor to the paper’s recently expanded business section.

Also joining the OC Register from the LA Times is Joanna Clay. Most recently a reporter and assistant Web editor for LA Times Community News publication the Coastline Pilot, her beat will remain Laguna Beach, Laguna Niguel and Aliso Viejo.

Roosevelt and Clay join fellow recent Register hires Roger Bloom (community editor), Brantley Watson (sports editor for OC Register community newspapers The Current, Huntington Beach Wave and Fountain Valley View) and former Riverside Press-Enterprise reporter Kim Pierceall (Irvine beat) as the latest instruments of publisher Aaron Kushner’s bold vision. Congrats to all.
