One Unexpected Side Effect Of Twitter

Press boxes are a lot quieter now, NFL columnist Sam Farmer told his employer, the LA Times. “Everyone saves their best wisecracks for Twitter.”

As part of Social Media Day (which was yesterday), the LAT asked some of its employees how social media has changed the way they work.

Many said that Twitter has made their jobs faster and more demanding. Many said the social media ecosystem allows writers to reach out to readers. Cutely, each of the responses solicited by the LAT were 140 characters or fewer.

Another way social media has changed journalism: you no longer have to wait to find out whether your boss is happy with the paper, because if he’s not, he’ll tell you—and the whole goddamn world if he feels like it. Ouch.
