On Kaplan's Strength, WaPo Reports Profit, Revenue Surge
The Washington Post Company reported second-quarter income of $91.9 million, up from $12.2 million a year earlier. Revenue rose 11 percent to $1.2 billion.
Two thirds of the company’s revenue, or $747 million, came from its education division, which includes Kaplan. Kaplan also generated $109 million in profit.
Meanwhile, at the company’s newspaper division, which handles the company’s flagship paper, revenue was up 2 percent to $172.7 million but the division sustained a $14.3 million loss…much smaller than the $89.3
