Oceanhouse Media Milestone: 1,000,000 Paid App Downloads (Dr. Seuss, Berenstain, & more)

Oceanhouse Media produces a variety of iPhone and iPad apps that focus on children’s books. They have the rights to several extremely well known series and charaters including the Dr. Seuss books, The Berenstain Bears, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. They announced today that there have been one million paid apps downloaded.

Oceanhouse Media, Inc. Reaches One Million Paid App Downloads on the App Store

Most of their paid apps range from 99 cents to $3.99. Some of their non-childrens’ titles are priced higher ($5.99, $6.99). OceanHouse’s press release notes apps priced up to $15.99. However, I did not find any of their apps priced higher than $6.99 for the iPhone and iPad. Assuming that the vast majority of the apps purchased were the childrens’ book apps, I’m taking a whild guess that OceanHouse sold at an average price of $2.50 (more or less). Multipy that by a million, take away Apple’s 30% cut, and they have earned a nice chunk of change in their two years of operations. Their multimedia ebook apps for children appears to be based on the same engine. So, their development costs past the first couple of titles should be minimal (i.e., more profits).
