Over at the NYT, Sewell Chan‘s City Room blog has finally gone live. The Times has been heavily promoting the local news blog over the past few months. Besides Chan, Diane Cardwell, Nicholas Confessore, Danny Hakim, Jonathan P. Hicks, Patrick LaForge, Alexis Mainland, Geoff McGhee, Maria Newman, Mike Richard and Ray Rivera will be contributing posts as well. It looks as if City Room is looking to integrate multimedia content in a similar way to its sibling Screens — a sample podcast has already been posted to the site.

So far, the blog has taken on Bloomberg’s congestion pricing plan, arrests at the Puerto Rican Day Parade, novelist Cathleen Schine‘s book reading for dogs and a state bill that misspelled “marijuana.”

In other NYT blog news, The Empire Zone has been given the axe, but will live on as a recurring feature on City Room.
