Trio of Media Vets Unveil NYC.TV

A soft beta rollout, with much more to come by 2016.

Max Nelson comes from Vox Media; Kareem Ahmed was previously helping The New York Times with audience development and growth; and Alexandra Serio served most recently as director of content development at SFX. But before all that, as WWD’s Alexandra Steigrad outlines, the trio worked in different capacities for VICE.

Their new site, NYC.TV, will eventually lead with original documentary content. But today, at launch, it’s a mix of aggregated streams and big plans:

NYC.TV is raising a seed round that it hopes to close at the end of July. It will also raise money through a Kickstarter campaign that launches today.

Serio said 70 percent of what the site garners from Kickstarter will go to content creators, with the bulk of what’s left going to marketing the site.

Serio also told Steigrad that the company has targeted Denver and Los Angeles as eventual additional physical outposts.
