NY1 Remembers Deadly Belle Harbor Crash Ten Years Later
It was just two months after 9/11, when a city already on edge dealt with another airplane disaster. Tomorrow, marks the 10th anniversary of the horrific American Airlines Flight 587 crash into a Belle Harbor, Queens neighborhood.
Investigators ruled out terrorism and blamed the crash, that left 260 passengers and crew members dead, on a mechanical failure. Five other people died on the ground.
It was third-highest death toll from an Airbus A300 accident.
NY1 commemorates the deadly crash with special coverage of the ceremony on its main channel and Spanish language NY1 Noticias beginning at 9:05 a.m.
