NookColor Update Adds Improved Periodical Features, More Magazine Titles

Barnes & Noble is pushing out an update today for its soon-to-be-cancelled eBook reader. Readers will soon be ale to download and read magazines with enhanced content.

The NookColor used to offer periodicals that were little more than PDFs, and today’s update is a step in the right direction. Pulbishers now have the option of adding enhanced content (videos, podcasts, animations, photo galleries, etc) to their titles. while it adds cost, the new content can also improve the user experience.

B&N is also rolling out 7 new titles today, including People, Time, Sports Illustrated, Fortune, Parents and Fitness magazines, and that brings Barnes & Noble’s periodical selection to around 200 titles. Plus, print subscribers to People, Time, Sports Illustrated and Fortune can enjoy the Nook versions of their magazines at no cost.

NC owners will get the update as an OTA download, but if they don’t want to wait then it can also be downloaded manually at
