No Relief In Weekly Jobless Claims

Weekly jobless claims dropped by a scant 11,000 to 457,000, down from last week’s revised figure of 468,000, the Department of Labor reported today.

The number of Americans receiving jobless benefits during the week ended July 17 was 4.6 million, with large numbers of layoffs in California and both Carolinas.

New York saw fewer claims filed by newly laid off workers, thanks to fewer cuts in the transportation and service industries, the state reported.
