Niantic Details Upcoming Pokemon Go Events in South Korea, Japan

The events will take place throughout November

Niantic revealed two new Pokemon Go events taking place in South Korea and Japan.

First, Pokemon Korea will host Pokemon Festa Nov. 4 through 12. During this event, Pokemon Go players throughout South Korea will be able to find more Pokemon than normal. In addition, from Nov. 10 through 12, players in Seoul will be able to encounter the legendary Pokemon Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres and Lugia in Raid battles at gyms around the city, except for those near Lotte World Mall.

Instead of encountering legendary Pokemon, players near Lotte World Mall will have the chance to encounter Mr. Mime and Unown.

Next, Niantic announced that the game’s next Safari Zone event will take place in Japan’s Tottori prefecture at the Tottori Sand Dunes. From Nov. 24 through 26, event attendees will be able to capture “a wide variety of Pokemon, including some rarely seen throughout the country.”

These events follow a series of Safari Zone events that took place at Unibail-Rodamco shopping centers throughout Europe over the past few months. Niantic said these events attracted more than 20,000 players to the shopping centers, and that over 6 million Pokemon were captured at the centers during the events. In addition, players captured 59 million Pokemon in the “surrounding area” while these Safari Zone events were taking place.

Pokemon Go is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store and Google Play. The game has been downloaded more than 750 million times, and it has driven more than 500 million visits to sponsored locations, such as Starbucks restaurants.

Niantic recently partnered with Wieden+Kennedy London to launch an advertising campaign for Pokemon Go. As part of this campaign, billboards containing gameplay stats appeared in London, Tokyo and New York, and some of these billboards were turned into in-game PokeStops.
