Newsstand Makers Thrive As Newspaper Industry Dies

We all know newspapers are struggling and magazines are closing left and right, but at least the survivors of the attrition war will have an attractive place to showcase their wares. The first 14 of a planned 330 newsstands are in place on the Upper West Side. Designed by Grinshaw Architects, the stands are part of a city wide campaign to build “street furniture,” which includes matching bus stops and public toilets. Glad to know we’ll have somewhere pleasant to sit while we read our iPhone on the john.
