New York Times reporter too busy to read this headline

The New York Observer is running a feature on New York Times reporter Sewell Chan, a 28-year-old former Washington Post staffer who was hired on at the Times in November 2004 and has had 422 bylines in the last 12 months.

Unsurprisingly, Chan’s ambitiousness cuts his coworkers both ways, especially when he pitches stories to editors at the urinals. In one weekend he filed 11 pieces, despite his obsession with nailing down sources’ middle initials.

It’s sobering to realize that in the time it took us to write this sentence, Chan has traveled to Buffalo, reported a story on the oldest man in America ever to bowl a 300, returned to Manhattan, and made and eaten a reuben in the Times‘ breakroom.
