New York Times Liveblogging Phone Hacking Hearings
Today Rupert Murdoch and several others are facing questioning by Parliament regarding the phone hacking scandal, and The New York Times is liveblogging it, as well as providing live video from a TV station in London.
Paul Stephenson was the first to be questioned. Stephenson is the Metropolitan police chief, who resigned on Sunday night. Right now, John Yates is facing questioning. Yates was the assistant commissioner of London’s Metropolitan Police Service and a senior counterterrorism officer. When asked why he resigned, Yates replied that he had “done nothing wrong,” but was so distracted by the phone hacking scandal he was unable to do his job. Sounds perfectly logical to us.
Murdoch is scheduled to appear later today. To quote Terrell Owens, “get your popcorn ready,” because that’s going to be quite a show.
