New Section, Deadlines for LA Times

LA Times announced yesterday it was shuttering its Orange County printing facility, resulting in significantly earlier deadlines for the front news section. The new deadline for the front page will be several hours earlier than the current 11 p.m. – rumors report it will be as early as 6 p.m.

To give late-breaking news someplace to go, the paper is creating a new section called LATExtra. Says Publisher Eddy Hartenstein of the additional section:

Designed to address print capacity complexities, create later print deadlines and complement Main A’s analysis and examination of the issues confronting our readers on local, national and global fronts, LATExtra will focus largely on California stories and include end-of-day reporting from across the spectrum.
