New NPR Boss Defends Funding | New Hires, Openings, Media Moves And More Weekend's News

Gary Knell started at NPR on Thursday, and very quickly came on record saying that the funds that the public broadcaster receives from the government are crucial. Without them, parts of America would become “sort of news deserts, with newspapers and commercial radio stations abandoning serious news in many ways, that would be a bad thing for America. And I think that’s a case that needs to be made to the Congress maybe more effectively.”
