New MySpace Motto: Discover and Be Discovered

MySpace came out of Thursday’s all-hands-on-deck staff meeting with a new slogan and a new activity and content stream, according to TechCrunch.

The Stream, as the social-networking site calls it, already launched, and it adds content including music friends are listening to on MySpace Music, video they’re watching, and links they are adding to friends’ status updates, TechCrunch reported.

As for the new slogan, “Discover and Be Discovered,” the goal is to have users who enter the site see new people they should be meeting, movie trailers they should watch, games they should play, music they should listen to, articles they should read, and other new content, TechCrunch reported, with a MySpace source telling TechCrunch the site frowns on the term “recommendation engine” for the algorithm it will use.

Sources also told TechCrunch News Corp. digital chief Jon Miller told MySpace employees former CEO Owen Van Natta wasn’t moving quickly enough, and there was too much friction among the social-networking site’s top brass. In addition, co-president Jason Hirschhorn said he never considered leaving MySpace, although that was widely reported, and Miller said of Hirschhorn and co-president Mike Jones, “They get along really well.”
