New Chrome Update Could Save Mobile Browsers 50% of Data Use

The latest Chrome update for Android includes some great improvements for browsers, particularly an option to reduce mobile data usage through data compression and bandwidth management. Users can save up to 50% of data usage by enabling the data compression feature in their chrome browser, which uses a Google proxy server.

The core optimizations that allow us to reduce overall data usage are performed by Google servers. When the Data Compression Proxy feature is enabled, Chrome Mobile opens a connection between your phone and one of the optimization servers running in Google’s datacenters and relays all non-encrypted HTTP requests over this connection.
