Nervy NJ Hire Asks Fournier for References

NJ Editor-in-Chief Ron Fournier has sent out this internal memo this morning announcing the hire of Jim Tankersley as the new economic correspondent.

Tankersley currently covers energy, the environment and politics for the Tribune Washington Bureau. Previous newspapers where he worked: Toledo Blade, Rocky Mountain News, The Oregonian.

What convinced Fournier to hire him was three words from a reference: “Hire him. Now!” What’s more, Tankersley – unbelievably – asked Fournier for references before applying for the job.
