MSNBC Tops News Sites for April

MSNBC.com continues to secure the top 30 current event and global news destination sites in the month of April. The site reported 40 million monthly uniques, a 24 percent increase year-over-year, according to Nielsen Online.Meanwhile, the NYTimes.com, which is generally ranked in the top 5, dropped down a bit to No. 6 with 16.5 million uniques with year-over-year decline of 8 percent. The New York Times is disputing the Nielsen numbers, noting its own internal data trends upwards. Fox News Digital Network gained nicely with 18.1 million uniques, a 67 percent increase compared to the same month last year. Most sites on the list reported gains in monthly uniques with the exception of six. The Huffington Post made the greatest advance year-over-year, up 157 percent -- even though there is no hot election race going on now.Below is the April list of the top current event and global news destination sites provided by Nielsen (owned by E&P's parent company). The Web sites are ranked by uniques and based on U.S. home and work panels. The percent change is for April 2009 compared to April 2008.
