Morris Publishing Emerges From Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

In January of this year, Morris Publishing Group filed for Chapter 11. Now, 42 days after filing its case, Morris has announced that it will emerge from bankruptcy.

By filing a pre-packaged bankruptcy, Morris was able to cut the amount it owed debtors from $418 million to $107 million and will remain a privately held company.

The Augusta, Georgia-based company owns 13 daily newspapers including The Augusta Chronicle and Savannah Morning News. Additionally, the group owns over 60 non-daily papers in Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Kansas, Minnesota, South Carolina and Texas.
