Morning Shakeup: Politico Hire's CQ Roll Call's Senior Vice President of Advertising

Here's something that should give people pause. Politico has swooped in and hired CQ Roll Call's Senior V.P. of Advertising Mark Walters. Before CQ Roll Call Walters was Assoc. Publisher of online advertising for Newsweek. As of Thursday we hear Walters was telling people he was weighing more than one option before he opted to jump ship for Politico. CQ Roll Call Spokeswoman Rebecca Gale told FishbowlDC: “Mark Walters will be missed. He took the advertising team by storm: bringing in quality sales people, expanding CQ Roll Call’s reach and exceeding expectations. No matter where Mark goes, he will use his talents well. In the meantime, the 8th floor of CQ Roll Call will be missing some of his New Jersey swagger.” Both Politico and CQ Roll Call have issued their respective memos. See them after the jump... Mark has a rich background most recently as the SVP of Advertising and Group Publisher at CQ Roll Call and previously as the Associate Publisher, online advertising for Newsweek. Mark brings 20 years of online and print sales leadership and his unique background in understanding both the DC and National Influencer market will help our clients develop messaging inside DC and nationally. Mark will report to me and will head up our world class advertising sales team. Mark and his team will continue to expand our advertising revenue and keep us on the leading edge of innovation in sales. We could not be more optimistic about the future of this company, in large part because we are proving that great journalism can be harnessed to a vibrant and profitable business model. Please join me in welcoming Mark to POLITICO. Roy Schwartz From CQ Roll Call: Folks - Our SVP of Advertising, Mark Walters, is leaving CQ Roll Call, effective tomorrow. The advertising team will now report to Peter Anthony, SVP of Advocacy and Engagement. We will be looking for a new head of advertising. Mark came to CQ Roll Call with national consumer experience having done stints at Newsweek and Dun and Bradstreet, as well as other national brands. During his more than a year and half at CQ Roll Call, he has been responsible for building the great team and strategies we currently have in place and for helping raise our digital IQ in the ad space as a company, and we wish him well as he seeks a return to the national space. Peter Anthony joined CQ Roll Call as part of our Illumen acquisition. Peter spent the last twelve years in this market as an entrepreneur focused on developing information and software tools designed to allow corporate, government and advocacy clients to stay informed, deliver their messages and drive engagement with policy makers and constituents. Over the past few months, Peter has been working closely with the advertising team on developing products and solutions to meet our client's marketing service needs. We are finding that our unique combination of news, data and tools are allowing us to give unique value to companies and advocacy groups in our market.
