‘Mommyblogger’ Heather Armstrong Inks HGTV Deal

HGTVHeatherArmstrong.jpgIt’s been a productive week for HGTV, as the Scripps Networks-owned home and lifestyle channel regained carriage on cable operator Cablevision Systems, and then turned its attention to the content and online sides of the business, signing dooce “mommyblogger” Heather Armstrong to an exclusive programming development deal, under which she will work with the network’s on-air and online production teams.

HGTV said it will offer further details about Armstrong’s HGTV platform this spring, but she will continue to blog for dooce and tweet to her more than 1.6 million Twitter followers.

HGTV president Jim Samples said:

We are thrilled to have Heather join the HGTV family. Not only is she one of the world’s best-known bloggers and parenting writers, with a unique and hilarious voice, she’s also a talented designer and photographer. She’s clearly a great fit for us and our audience.

There are numerous opportunities by which Heather’s many talents will come to life, and we’ve been collaborating with her on a menu of them. We think that both her audience and ours will be excited by what we have in store.

Armstong added:

I am thrilled to be partnering with HGTV in the upcoming year and have been a huge fan of the network for many years. In fact, I spent the first three months of my second child’s life watching every episode of Curb Appeal and Designed to Sell, and now. if called upon. I could stage a house within an inch of its life. I’ve been looking to grow my business beyond its online presence and, having been approached by other media brands before, I can confidently say that there is no better partner than HGTV to help me take this step.

She elaborated further in a post on dooce:

I am so excited and thrilled and DEMONICALLY GARFIELDED to announce that I have signed an exclusive development deal with HGTV.

I am joining the HGTV talent family, as they call it, and I could not be more over the moon. I’m all the way to Jupiter. The air is very thin and dry up here.

There are a lot of projects and ideas in my life that I’ve wanted to develop but haven’t had the resources to do so, and HGTV is the perfect partner to help me take this next step. I think what we’re planning to do is going to be fun and spectacular and a fantastic addition to what I already do over here. And yes, I’ll still be posting on my regular schedule here on this Internet Website Blog Thing. Y’all, I would never take Chuck away from you. Unless you started upholstering your couch in denim, and I’d be all, hmm…

I cannot wait to take you all along for this exhilarating ride! Meowsies!
