Modern Luxury Makes Some Executive Level Moves

Beth Berman Cohen is Washington group publisher, Michael Clements is named editor in chief of Capitol File and Tina Borgatta is group executive editor

Upscale lifestyle publisher Modern Luxury announces a number of upper-level hires. The moves come a few months after Modern Luxury purchased GreenGale Publishing and its portfolio of titles.

Beth Berman Cohen joins in a new role as group publisher for the organization’s Washington-based publications, which include Capitol File, DC magazine, Modern Luxury Weddings Washington and Charity and Social Datebook DC. She will also oversee Interiors Washington as it prepares to launch.

Cohen joins from Tribune Media, where she had been an account manager for WDCW in Washington and The Weather Channel. Prior to that, she had been vice president of sales at Cumulus Media and general sales manager for HOT 99.5 and DC101 at Clear Channel before then.

“Beth Cohen has a proven record of leadership and has built deep and effective relationships both inside and outside the Beltway,” said Modern Luxury CEO Michael Dickey, to whom Cohen will report. “Her experience across all facets of media will propel our growth strategy as we expand our product offerings for clients and readers.”

Capitol File has a new editor in chief in Michael M. Clements. For Clements, the move represents a return to the publishing world; most recently, he worked on developing the organization he founded, ArtJamz, a “freestyle” paint and sip operation. He previously served as executive editor of Washington Life magazine.

“From my time as a graduate student at American University until now, I’ve witnessed the tremendous transformation of Washington, D.C. from provincial political town to world-class destination,” said Clements in a statement. “I’m honored to work with the Modern Luxury team to advance Capitol File’s mission and shine a spotlight on the people, places and forces behind the national capital region’s ascension.”

Capitol File, while had been a GreenGale title before the sale, has witnessed turbulence in recent years, and lost both its publisher and editor in chief in March, prior to the sale.

Modern Luxury Orange County EIC Tina Borgatta gets a promotion to group executive editor, a new position that will put her in charge of several of Modern Luxury’s main regional publications as well as City Guides, Modern Luxury Interiors and Modern Luxury Weddings.
