At a time when city folk are raising chickens in their backyards and soil is a legitimate dinner party topic, Modern Farmer brings together food and sophistication in one package. Topics span from the effects of climate change on India’s rice crops to “high-fashion” farmwear—all stunningly illustrated. Editor Ann Marie Gardner, late of Monocle and T: Travel, The New York Times Magazine, said her target is urban window box gardeners, third-generation farmers and “people like me who feel this romance around farming and want to know more about where their food comes from. It’s a movement—I don’t believe it’s a trend.”
