Mobile Game Roundup: WWE 2K, Hearthstone and More

Looking for a new game to play this weekend? Here’s a look at some of the games launched this week. WWE 2K ($7.99 on iOS, Amazon) - From 2K, n-Space and Visual Concepts, WWE 2K is the first simulation-based WWE game for mobile platforms. The game’s content was inspired by the WWE 2K series of console games, and includes multiple match types, full WWE Superstar ring entrances and comprehensive move sets. Players can complete Career mode or live multiplayer matches as one of the game’s roster of existing Superstars, including John Cena, Daniel Bryan, The Undertaker and Triple H (among others), or create their own Superstar. Must Deliver (Free on iOS, Android, Amazon) - A zombie-themed endless runner from Cherrypick Games, Must Deliver challenges players to deliver a cure for the zombie plague to helpless survivors, while not becoming one of the undead in the process. To play, gamers tap and hold on their character, dragging their finger to avoid oncoming enemies. Players can collect green orbs scattered along the path, and when they’ve collected enough to fill an attack meter at the top of the screen, can let go of the screen to unleash a special attack. Players earn coins for making deliveries, and can spend these coins on new playable characters (with different attacks), or on upgrades for their attacks. Mega Drift (Free on iOS) - From Chillingo and Blackbeard Games, Mega Drift is an endless driving game, challenging players to race through as many checkpoints as possible before running out of time. Gamers drift around corners using tap and hold controls, and receive a speed boost after each perfect drift. Additional tilt controls allow players to move left and right to avoid obstacles or collect coins and vehicle repair boosts along the path. Gamers can unlock and upgrade multiple vehicles using the coins they collect while playing, while new drifting environments are also available for purchase with coins. MLB Perfect Inning 15 (Free on iOS) - Gamevil’s baseball simulation game, MLB Perfect Inning, has been updated and revamped for the 2015 season, essentially making this a new experience for players. In the update, gamers will have access to the All-Star Game, a free agent system, spectator mode and a new player index, giving users access to plenty of player stats. Gamers can play the 2015 season’s daily games with MLB Today, eventually taking their team to the World Series. Users can train and upgrade their players, and compete in head to head baseball games to become the best in the world. Celestia: Broken Sky (Free on Android) - From ZQGame Global, this “cosmic RPG” takes players to a world shaken by cataclysm and broken into thousands of pieces. As a protector of the Earth Realm, gamers will defeat enemies and defeat bosses in order to re-capture pieces of land and unite them. Celestia features turn-based battles, and will see players collecting their enemies and turning them into helpers. A guild system and player-vs-player elements are also available. Celestia: Broken Sky is coming to iOS next month. Masters of the Masks (Free on iOS, Android) - An RPG from Square Enix, Masters of the Masks sees players completing turn-based battles by dragging their heroes onto enemy units. Each unit has an elemental affinity, which impacts their relation to other types. The more health players have at the end of each battle, the more crafting materials they receive, which help them upgrade their equipment and make their units stronger. Players can collect masks to unlock new warriors, with future updates bringing player-vs-player battles to the experience. Frontline Commando: WW2 (Free on iOS, Android, Amazon) - Glu’s latest installment in the Frontline Commando franchise is the sequel to Frontline Commando: D-Day, and challenges players to lead the Allied forces to victory. In each mission, players tap and drag to aim, and tap on buttons to fire their weapon or crouch behind cover. In between missions, players can purchase items including weapons and powers (extra health or airstrikes, as examples), or can upgrade their weapons to meet each level’s specific requirements. Grow Me Up! (Free on iOS) - A survival title from Qaibo Games, Grow Me Up stars a young boy named Alex who wants to reach 100 years old. Instead of aging naturally, players can feed Alex to help him age rapidly. Food and other items fly across the screen, and players must swipe the food into Alex’s mouth, while avoiding items like bombs, light bulbs, toys and other inedible objects. Each time players feed Alex an incorrect item, they lose a heart, until they eventually lose. As players reach age milestones, their progress is saved, allowing them to pick up at these checkpoints when they fail. Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft (Free on iOS, Android, Amazon) - Previously released on PC, Mac and tablets, Blizzard Entertainment’s popular strategy card game is now available to play on smartphones, offering the game’s complete experience, but with a user interface specifically designed for smaller screens. To be specific, players have access to all of the game’s content and premium expansions, including the newly released Blackrock Mountain. Existing players will have full access to their card collections when trying the game on their phone. To celebrate the release, after players complete their first game on iOS or Android, they’ll receive one free Classic Card Pack from the original Hearthstone set. This counts for both tablet and phone versions of the game.
