Mobile Game Roundup: Soda Dungeon, NHL SuperCard and More

Are you looking for a new mobile game to try this weekend? As usual, there were plenty of new games released this week, including Crafty Candy, a new match-three puzzle game from Outplay Entertainment. The game sees players helping a friendly witch named Candice collect colorful candy to create potions. Fans of the Heroes television series also have a new game to try this week, as Imperative Entertainment and Phosphor Games Studio released Heroes Reborn: Enigma, a first-person action puzzle game inspired by the Heroes Reborn television series. Finally, SEGA and Hardlight released Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom on iOS, an endless runner which allows players to take up to three characters into each run, and swap between them by running down specially-marked paths. Looking for something else to play this weekend? Here’s a look at some additional games released this week. Soda Dungeon (Free on iOS) - From Armor Games, this dungeon raiding title sees players managing a soda tavern and hiring traveling adventurers to collect treasures by completing level-based battles in dungeons. As players collect gold inside dungeons, these can be spent on upgrades for the tavern, which may give them the chance to recruit new and better adventurers to send on future quests. Players can find weapons and armor for their adventurers in dungeons, or can purchase better items from the armory within the tavern. Soda Dungeon is coming to Android on November 7. QuickBoy (Free on iOS, Android) - From Netmarble Games, this side-scrolling runner places players in the role of Tommy Hawk, a delivery boy challenged with saving humanity during the zombie apocalypse. Players complete level-based missions by tapping on jump and slide buttons to jump over or slide under obstacles, which include zombies on the path. Over time, gamers unlock tools like drones and jetpacks, with jetpacks allowing players to fly over obstacles, and drones adding a specific boost to future games (like creating extra coins or increasing the duration of a power-up, as examples). One power-up, for instance, gives Tommy a shield, which allows him to defeat zombies without being hurt for a limited time. Players can spend coins on additional drones, or on upgrades for their items. The Walking Dead: No Man’s Land (Free on iOS) - From AMC and Next Games, The Walking Dead: No Man’s Land is the official mobile game based on the AMC television series. The game takes players to the zombie apocalypse, and combines city-building with turn-based battles. As players progress, they'll collect survivors from six different classes, and can mix and match these survivors to create a team of three heroes for each battle. During battle, players drag their finger around the game board to command each individual survivor to complete tasks (like attacking zombies or searching for resources). Back at their camp, players can train their survivors to increase their stats, or build and upgrade structures to collect resources like food and currency. The game offers 10 episodes of story missions at launch, while social features allow players to work with others to complete weekly guild challenges. Battle Decks (Free on iOS) - From Codemasters and Chillingo, Battle Decks is a multiplayer collectible card game, allowing players to customize multiple decks (one for each of the game’s factions) using a selection of more than 1,000 cards, and take their decks into battle against other online players. During each battle, players work to destroy the enemy’s base on the game board. Players spend a limited number of Command Points on each turn to play cards from their hand, move their units around the board or attack the enemy. Gamers can also spend Command Points to draw additional cards to their hand on their turn. Players have access to a pre-designed (but customizable) deck for each of the game's six factions, with each deck having its own specialities. For instance, the CyborGen faction focuses on splash damage, assistance drones and enforcers, while the ArmaTek faction focuses on powerful vehicles, weapons and battlefield presence. Users can practice with these decks against computer opponents to find the best deck for their play style, before going against real opponents. Gamers can purchase additional cards with coins or real money, and can customize their decks between matches. In addition to standard single-player matches, gamers can compete in the Frontline mode, which sees users given three lives to clear as many battles as possible for a chance to win extra currency and cards. This mode limits the number of faction decks players can choose from. Shop Heroes (Free on iOS, Android) - From developer cloudcade, Shop Heroes is an RPG shop simulator, allowing players to build their own shop and craft over 550 items to sell to the traveling heroes who visit the shop. While players begin by crafting basic items like knives and walking sticks, they’ll unlock new crafting recipes as they make lesser items in large quantities. While gamers can collect iron and wood from bins in their shop, some recipes require special ingredients which can be gathered by sending the heroes they’ve met on timed quests via the game’s Inn. Early on, players unlock the ability to visit the town around their shop, with each building serving a different purpose. Players can invest free or premium currency into these buildings to increase their resource production or unlock additional content. For social features, players can invite their friends to their town and upgrade these buildings together. Users can also sell crafted items to other players in a real-time market. Shop Heroes is also available to play for free on Facebook. CSI: Slots (Free on iOS, Android, Windows Phone) - From Gameloft, this slot machine game is based on the CSI television series, and offers a story mode which sees players solving crimes with characters from the show. During each case, players are challenged to collect pieces of evidence or other special symbols (handcuffs, police badges, and so on), which are represented on the slot machine’s reels. Like a traditional slot machine, players spend currency with each spin, but can receive it back as the reels land on specific symbol combinations. As gamers play, they’ll unlock stand alone slot machines which can be accessed from the game’s main menu. These offer traditional slot machine gameplay, without the inclusion of CSI investigations. Chesh ($2.99 on iOS) - From developer Damian Sommer, Chesh is a multiplayer game inspired by chess, but with a different set of symbols and changing rules. Each two-player game begins with different pieces on the board, with each piece having a random movement rule assigned to it. Rather than explaining things via a tutorial, the game challenges players to learn from experience. Chesh offers three game modes and 533 different chesh pieces. Players can adjust the size of the board, and the number of pieces in play, to customize the game’s challenge level. In addition to local and online multiplayer functionality, players can also practice against the computer. Aya ($1.99 on iOS) - From Pine Entertainment, this horror title sees players helping a girl name Aya escape 13 nightmares and a curse caused by the devil. Each nightmare is a haunted maze, and players navigate using a lantern as a source of light. Gamers must avoid the devil’s evil spirits, and work their way through each maze to save Aya’s soul. Don’t Fall (Free on iOS, Android) - From Ketchapp and EyeBox Games, this endless survival game asks players to help a ball navigate an endless pathway by sliding yellow blocks into the gaps in the path, before the ball reaches each gap and falls off. Gamers can collect crystals as they play, which are spent to unlock new playable characters. Gamers will also occasionally receive offers to earn free crystals by watching a video ad. Players can share their high scores with friends. Lost Souls: Timeless Fables (Free to try, $2.99 / $4.99 full game unlock on iPhone / iPad) - From G5 Entertainment, this sequel to Lost Souls: Enchanted Paintings asks players to help Bella find her missing brother by traveling through the pages of well-known stories and fables. Players will visit 40 locations and complete over 20 mini-games as they explore five books and nine chapters of content. Players can unlock 39 achievements as they play. While the game's official launch was scheduled for this week, G5 Entertainment told SocialTimes an issue is preventing the title from currently being available on the iTunes App Store. However, the game is 'coming soon.' The full unlock price for Lost Souls: Timeless Fables will increase to $4.99 and $6.99 on iPhone and iPad (respectively) two days after its launch. King of Trading (Free on iOS, Android) - The second stock market game from Ronin Game Studios, King of Trading is a fantasy trading experience, allowing players to create virtual stock portfolios using their knowledge of the stock market. The game allows players to join contests using virtual currency, for a chance to win more currency and eventually receive ‘branded rewards’ as they progress. Contests come in multiple types and durations, lasting from one hour to one month. Stock data within the game is influenced by real-time market data provided by the BATS U.S. Stock Exchange. Dust: An Elysian Tail ($5.99 on iOS) - From Humble Hearts, this side-scrolling adventure RPG was first released on console and PC, and stars a warrior named Dust, who must explore environments, complete quests and defeat enemies as he attempts to remember his past. As players progress, Dust learns new skills allowing him to travel to previously inaccessible parts of the world. NHL SuperCard (Free on iOS, Android, Amazon) - From 2K, Cat Daddy Games and Visual Concepts, NHL SuperCard is a hockey-themed collectible card game, which allows players to collect cards representing current and former NHL players, and take them into multiple competitive multiplayer modes. Players can complete Quick Games to rapidly earn additional cards for their deck, or can take their team into Season Mode, which offers week-long simulations of an NHL season. In Quick Games, players choose one or more athlete cards for each period of the hockey game, with each period focusing on a different stat, like stickhandling or skating, as examples. Gamers select their cards based on each athlete’s point rating for these stats. Once selected, the game compares the ratings on both players’ cards, and the winner earns points in the overall hockey game. Players win new cards for their deck after each game, with the number of cards depending on whether they won or lost the game, or whether it was a complete shutout. Finally, Rivals Clash Events allow players to partner with others to compete against rivals for rewards.
