Mobile Game Roundup: Fairy Mix, Fort Meow and More

As we end another week, mobile gamers have plenty of new titles to try on iOS, Android and beyond. To start, Gameloft released its latest strategy game, Siegefall, which allows players to build a base and create an army capable of defeating enemies in battle. SEGA’s Sonic Runners also launched on mobile this week. The endless runner stars Sonic and friends on a quest to save the world’s animals from the evil Dr. Eggman. Elsewhere, fans of EA Mobile’s games have plenty of new content to try, as The Sims FreePlay, SimCity BuildIt and The Simpsons: Tapped Out have all recently received major content updates. If you’re looking for something different, here’s a look at a few more games released this week. Fairy Mix (Free on iOS, Android) - From Nika Entertainment, Fairy Mix is a match-three puzzle game that asks players to rescue the Magic Garden from an evil witch. The game combines puzzle gameplay with city-building and crafting elements, as players can construct items on the level map using the resources they collect while playing. For instance, players will build an estate early on, which increases their maximum lives. Wild Snakes (Free on iOS) - A level-based puzzle game from WildSnake Software, Wild Snakes asks players to swipe on the screen to direct lines from starting points to end points. Each level is timed, and the board is filled with gems that players can voluntarily collect, or skip if it’s easier. Gamers must ensure lines don’t run into the edge of the board or each other, and will earn up to three stars on each stage, depending on their performance. LEGO Batman: Beyond Gotham ($4.99 on iOS) - Based on the console game LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, this newest title from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT Games, DC Entertainment and The LEGO Group allows players to unlock over 100 different characters, each with their own abilities, as they stop Brainiac from destroying the Earth. The roster of characters includes members of the Justice League and Legion of Doom (among others), with more characters on the way. Players can complete missions using either classic or touch screen control schemes. The game is coming soon to Android. Formula Cartoon All Stars ($3.99 on iOS, Android, Amazon) - This kart-racing game from Cartoon Network Games stars characters from multiple Cartoon Network properties, including Adventure Time, Regular Show, Steven Universe, The Amazing World of Gumball, Clarence, Uncle Grandpa and more. The game offers asynchronous multiplayer, as well standard AI opponents. Players can unlock show-themed tournaments, and will race through over 75 different versions of tracks and locations from Cartoon Network properties, including Candy Kingdom and Elmore Junior High. Players can customize their vehicle, and will have access to power-ups like ice cubes, bubbles and tomatoes while racing. Soul Hunters (Free on iOS, Android) - Following the game’s success in Asia, Kick9 and Lilith Games have released this card collecting battle game in the West. Soul Hunters sees players collecting more than 80 heroes and creating a team to take into battle. During combat, heroes and enemies attack automatically, leaving gamers to tap on character portraits to trigger any available special attacks. Players will collect loot for their heroes and make them stronger over time. For multiplayer features, Soul Hunters supports guilds, a player-vs-player arena and even Bluetooth battles between two local players. Tales from Deep Space ($6.99 on iOS, Fire Phone) - Previously released on Kindle Fire, Amazon Game Studios’ adventure game is now available for Fire Phone and iOS users. The game stars traveling salesman E and an intelligent luggage drone named CASI, and challenges players to explore environments as they save a space station from enemies. Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions ($4.99 on Android, Amazon) - Previously released on iOS, this shooter from Sierra and Lucid Games challenges players to complete 50 levels in Adventure mode, and also offers five Classic modes inspired by past games in the Geometry Wars franchise. In each level, players direct their ship through environments and must defeat enemies before their own ship is destroyed. The game supports Bluetooth controllers. Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation ($14.99 on iOS, Android) - From Square Enix, this latest mobile installment in the Dragon Quest franchise is the last chapter of the Zenithian trilogy, and sees players recruiting a team of characters and completing a journey across two parallel worlds as they work to save the world from darkness. Players can upgrade their characters via training, can recruit, train and battle slimes in the Slimopolis or even spend time in the casino to win prizes, among other features. Brave Frontier (Free on Windows Phone) - Following the game’s release on iOS and Android, where it has surpassed 23 million downloads, gumi Inc. has launched this RPG for Windows Phone players. Brave Frontier allows players to collect over 400 characters and complete over 100 missions in turn-based combat. Players can upgrade their heroes over time, and will earn points as they complete objectives in a new achievements system. As players earn points, these can be cashed out for “exclusive items and bonuses.” Brave Frontier is coming soon to the Windows Store. Warship Battle (Free on Android) - From Joycity, this 3-D action game is the follow-up to Gunship Battle, and features missions based on historical battles from the World War II era. Gamers control their ships in real-time, fast-paced battles, and can customize their ships with new weapons and parts. Over 400,000 players signed up for the game prior to launch. Warship Battle is coming soon to iOS. Hunger Beat ($0.99 on iPad) - The Hunger Beat Project looks to bring awareness to world hunger by challenging players to beat world hunger digitally. In each scenario of Hunger Beat, players begin with an abstract world map that grows increasingly red as more citizens suffer from hunger. Players can highlight specific regions of the globe and change their focuses, from saving food or ending climate change to improving water and sanitation, family planning and more. Each action may have an impact on the overall world hunger situation, so players must find the right combinations of choices to succeed. Tiny Troopers 2: Special Ops (Free on Android) - From Chillingo and Kukouri Mobile Entertainment, Tiny Troopers 2: Special Ops was originally released on iOS devices, and is now available for Android gamers. The game sees players completing three special operations as they tap or tap and hold on the screen to move their troops, and tap on enemies to fire. Players will collect Command Points as they play, and can use these to purchase items and supplies during missions. Players can also spend these Command Points in between missions to unlock better weapons and gear for their soldiers, or unlock new soldiers altogether. Tribal Wars 2 (Free on iOS) - Previously released on browser and Android, this strategy game from InnoGames sees players building a kingdom in a medieval setting by balancing the use of key resources, including clay, iron and wood. Social features allow players to attack other gamers’ bases, or join cooperative alliances, among other features. The Abduction of Bacon at Dawn, The Chronicles of a Brave Rooster ($2.99 on iOS) - From Batovi Games Studio, this side-scrolling title mixes platforming with shooting as players are challenged to defeat the aliens who have come to Earth to abduct pigs. Players will collect armor and weapon upgrades as they progress, and can replay completed stages with these new tools in order to complete each of the game’s challenges. Dawn of the Snipers (Free on Android) - From Brutal Studio, this sniping game takes players to the zombie apocalypse, where they must protect the surviving humans from the undead. Players can zoom in on the battlefield for a better view, and can purchase and upgrade new sniper rifles as they progress. Dawn of the Snipers offers side missions to complete as well as achievements to unlock, and players can share these achievements (and their score) with friends. Supreme League of Patriots: Issue 1: A Patriot is Born ($3.99 on iPad) - A point-and-click adventure title from Phoenix Online Publishing and No Bull Intentions, this first of three issues is described as a "politically incorrect superhero comedy adventure," which follows Kyle Keever, whose alter-ego, the Purple Patriot, must become the hero of New York. iPad gamers can try the game for free via this demo version. Fort Meow ($3.99 on iPad) - A physics-based puzzle adventure from Upper Class Walrus and Surprise Attack Games, Fort Meow follows Nia, a girl who finds her grandfather’s journal in her grandparents’ attic, and is attacked by a group of cats trying to stop her from reading the journal. The game sees players using items from around the house to build a fort and protect Nia from the cats. Players must take physics into account, as well as the differences between cats, as they work to survive and discover the mysteries within the journal. Fort Meow is also available on Steam for $7.99.
