Facebook’s Mobile Monetization Push Continues With Tests Of Birthday Notifications With Gifts, Sponsored Apps In Left-Side Menu

Facebook appears to be testing two new ways to deliver ads to its mobile users, as a reader of sister blog Inside Facebook shared screenshots of a notification about a friend’s birthday with a prompt to use the social network’s Gifts feature to recognize the event, as well as a sponsored apps addition to the left-side menu.

The birthday notifications appear in mobile users’ News Feeds, and the Gifts feature works the same as it does on desktop, prompting users to purchase gifts for their friends based on their interests.

And the left-hand-side menu on the Facebook iOS application now contains a sponsored apps entry, which leads users to the featured apps, much like the social network’s popular mobile app install ads.

Readers: Have you seen either of these new mobile ad units?
