Square Enix Forms Hippo Lab -- According to Game Business, Japanese games company Square Enix has announced the forming of a new subsidiary, Hippo Lab. Having begun operations, already, on March 7th, the studio is focused specifically on developing games for smartphones. No titles have been announced, although Square Enix brought nostalgic favorites like Final Fantasy III to market this week. Papaya Farm Goes Cross-Platform -- The mobile-social farming game, Papaya Farm is going cross-platform this week. Previously on both iOS and Android independently, the Papaya Mobile app is stated to now work between both. Shazam Updates with New Facebook Features -- Popular music tagging app, Shazam is getting new Facebook features this week. Now, through an option called "Shazam Friends," users can see all the songs their Facebook friends have tagged via a feed. 90210 Comes to Mobile -- Another television franchise is getting into mobile games in the form of the CW's long running show, 90210 - The Game. Developed by Hands-On Entertainment, the game is available for iOS, Android, and BlackBerry. MocoSpace Announces Game Developer Fund Recipients -- Mobile-social gaming network, MocoSpace, has announced the first handful of developers to receive funding from its $1 million HTML5 Mobile Game Developer Fund. According to Engage Digital, the recipients of New Game Town, Joyplay, and Kooky Panda will be the first to receive both funding and marketing support. BOKU Partners With 02 -- Another new partnership with BOKU has come about this week. The mobile payment service has partnered with German carrier 02 to bring direct carrier billing for its customer base. Starbucks Card Mobile Racks Up 3 Million Users -- An interesting note from Mashable.com, as the mobile application, Starbucks Card Mobile, which allows users to make mobile purchases for Starbucks coffee on iPhone and BlackBerry, is stated to have tallied north of 3 million people making purchases through the app. AT&T to Buy T-Mobile USA -- AT&T has made a big announcement, stating that it has agreed to buy T-Mobile USA from Deutsche Telekom. The proposed $39 billion acquisition will likely take months to review by the Federal Trade Commission. Flurry Launches Support Program -- Mobile analytics company, Flurry, has announced its new Game Acceleration Program for both iOS and Android game developers. The new program will support developers with development and marketing support, analytics, design and development support, financing, distribution, and marketing. The announcement comes hot on the heels of the similar Tapjoy "self-publishing" program made Wednesday. Pulse Receives New Updates -- Alphonso Labs' popular news reading app for iOS and Android, Pulse, is getting new updates this week. Like other updates noted this week, Pulse's include improve sharing, that allows users to pull in content from their favorite social networks, such as Facebook. Release of Honeycomb Source Code Delayed -- According to Bloomberg's Businessweek, Google will be delaying the distribution of it's Android source code. Called Honeycomb, the software is meant for tablets and intended to compete with the iPad, however, Google states that it is not yet ready to be customized by outside programmers or for other devices. BlackBerry PlayBook to Support Android Apps -- Research in Motion has announced that its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet will support Android applications. The tablet is expected to launch April 19th at $499.
