Infinity Blade II wins Mobile Game of the Year Award -- Epic Games’ Infinity Blade II has won the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences’ award for for Mobile Game of the Year at the 15th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards. Epic beat offerings from EA, Microsoft Studios and Phosphor Games Studio for the award. Pocket Frogs, Tiny Tower, Jetpack Joyride and Temple Run still racking up downloads -- This week NimbleBit’s Tiny Tower and Pocket Frogs passed 10 million lifetime downloads, Imangi Studios’ Temple Run surpassed 36 million downloads and Halfbrick announced at the D.I.C.E summit that its game Jetpack Joyride had reached 13 million downloads since going free-to-play. EA to release Mass Effect 3 companion mobile app -- EA is releasing an iOS companion app for its hotly anticipated game Mass Effect 3, according to Shack News. Called Mass Effect Infiltrator, the game is a third person shooter. According to EA, playing the iOS game will help players earn the best of many possible endings on the console version of Mass Effect 3. Preinstalled Windows 8 Metro apps revealed - The Verge is reporting Microsoft will bundle Metro apps called Camera, Messaging, Mail, Calendar, SkyDrive, People, Photos, Videos and Music with the consumer preview release of Windows 8. Minecraft Pocket Edition update delayed -- The hotly anticipated update to Mojang’s top grossing iOS and Android app Minecraft - Pocket Edition has been delayed due to bugs, according to Daniel Kaplan’s Twitter. Renren Games quietly moves into the english iOS Market -- Chinese based social network Renren has quietly diversified its iOS offerings, releasing an English language tower defense title called Angry King Kong in December. The company’s only other iOS game is a Chinese title called 骑士战争 (Knight War). Epic Games hosting iOS development contest -- Infinity Blade publisher Epic Games has licensed the Fighting Fantasy series of role-playing adventure books and is using the IP as the basis for a development contest called Make Something Unreal Live according to Joystiq. Under the terms of the contest, four startup studios will create an iOS game based on a book in the series. The games will be released this spring and the winning team will receive a free Unreal Engine 3 commercial development license. Shanghai boy jumps from building after playing mobile game -- Penn Olson is reporting that a boy in Shanghai jumped out of a five story building holding an umbrella while trying to imitate mobile parachute game. The boy landed on a rain canopy before becoming tangled in a fence and was unhurt. Appcelerator buys Cocoafish -- Mobile platform company Appcelerator has bought mobile app infrastructure provider Cocoafish. According to an Appcelerator press release, Cocoafish’s services will be integrated into the company’s platform by Q2 of this year. The terms of the deal were not disclosed. [Funding] Viddy raises $6 million -- Video sharing application Viddy has raised $6 million in Series A financing in a round lead by Battery Ventures and including Greycroft Ventures and Qualcomm. The company has now raised $8.2 million dollars.
