MLS Invades Orlando With MLS All-Star Skills Challenge Tuesday, All-Star Game Wednesday

Fans following the first event can interact with players and talent in real-time on Twitter, Twitch

Major League Soccer is teaming up with the F2 Freestylers—Jeremy Lynch and Billy Wingrove, soccer skills specialists, who have tallied over 10 million subscribers on YouTube—on the MLS All-Star Skills Challenge.

The MLS All-Star Skills Challenge will take place in Orlando Tuesday night, with the 2019 MLS All-Star Game to follow Wednesday, also in Orlando.

The 90-minute event will feature three teams: MLS-All Stars (Wayne Rooney, Carlos Vela and Jonathan dos Santos), Orlando City SC (Nani, Chris Mueller and Sebastian Mendez) and Atlético de Madrid (Koke, João Felix and Héctor Herrera).

The team that amasses the most points across three skills—shooting, touch and volley and passing—will be crowned champions of the event, and a donation will be made to the charity of its choice.

Judges include: FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019 champion Alex Morgan of the Orlando Pride; Orlando City SC legend Kaka, member of the Brazil squad that won 2002 FIFA World Cup; MLS and U.S. Men’s National Team legend Alexi Lalas; former National Football League wide receiver Chad Johnson; and eMLS Cup champion Cormac Dooley, better known as Doolsta, who will represent the online fan vote.

The league teamed up with Twitter and Twitch to enable fans to watch and interact with players and talent in real-time during the event.

On the production side, MLS said it is using 12 cameras in total, and eight players will be miked up on the field (six participating and two in the player bullpen).

MLS said in a statement, “MLS is committed to delivering innovative content to fans everywhere. Through this event, both fans in Orlando for the All-Star Game presented by Target and fans globally will be able to enjoy additional experiences with our world-class athletes beyond matchday.”
