Michael Weissenstein Named AP Caribbean News Director

A new role for the AP vet.

The Associated Press has promoted Michael Weissenstein from Cuba bureau chief to Caribbean news director.

Weissenstein is a veteran of the AP. He previously served as a Mexico City correspondent, an editor and reporter in New York and an editor in London.

“Mike is an excellent journalist and wordsmith who has shepherded our coverage of Cuba through the island’s 2014 rapprochement with the United States to the death of Fidel Castro last month,” said Paul Haven, the AP’s news director for Latin America and the Caribbean, in a statement.
