Michael to California: Let them eat croc

Bad news for those who care for Michael Jackson‘s elephants, giraffes, tigers and crocodiles.

The state has ordered that Jackson‘s Neverland ranch be shut down over his failure to pay staff their wages and letting workers compensation insurance lapse.

California only got involved, the BBC says, “after a Neverland employee making an unpaid-wage claim remarked that a co-worker had been injured at work and was unsure about filing a claim due to the lapsed worker’s compensation insurance.”

That’s the irony behind our backward child labor laws: If the only the injured employee were a pre-pubescent 12 year old boy, he’d likely be showered with money (amongst other things) and sleeping in a very comfortable, albeit a tad crowded, bed.
